Marathon has a fun menu of Chinese meets American food. I love the fried pork chip and bolo hamburger! There's usually a wait around rush hours, so try to come off hours if you can. The staff is nice and the restaurant is very causal.
This is a quaint shop with authentic Chinese food and drinks. They have a limited menu posted on the wall as well in the front. You order and pickup your food in the front. The waitress will deliver it to your table if you are doing sit down. The milk tea was good. The coffee meets tea was ok but not enough coffee in the tea. The pork chops are was the place is noted for. The toast as not that great. The burgers were juicy. They have a small karaoke area in the front. The atmosphere was more of a rush feeling than a relax spot. Call or Google the restaurant to see if they are open that day and the hours. It was closed 3 middays this week.
I ordered the pork cutlet with the pepper sauce iver rice as a take out order. The cutlet was perfectly deep fried and the brown pepper sauce was put on a container on the side, this kept the cutlet nice and crispy. The order comes with a generous portion of white rice, delicous and I was able to share it with my daughter. Totally worth the $14 and some cents with the cash discount other wise is $16 and some cents. This is definitely my favorite dish from their menu
[Project Hong Kong Milk Tea - Marathon Cafe] {Seeking the best Hong Kong Milk Tea in NYC} Grade: 85 of 100 Worth Trying 4.5 of 5 The Milk Tea here is one of the best in NYC to me, and I tried something that I never tried even when I was in Hong Kong. Red Bean Shaved Ice is a famous dessert in HK and Milk Tea?! It's definitely a must have. I have no doubt in its taste, but the shaved iced needs to combat the temperature of the milk tea is a crucial task. The taste for this one is a champion. It will be more fulfilling if the iced can be better executed. Amazing Cloud 奇雲 @Kaloud12
A very quaint and heartwarming little HK style restaurant which gives you the immersive experience of being in Hong Kong! The staff were all very friendly and social, which was a pleasure to speak with. The tomato broth with macaroni, fatty beef and onsen egg had a decent flavor profile, with broth that isn't too watery nor too thick. The fatty beef were not overcooked and the onsen egg, as you can see, was done perfectly. The only thing that detracted from the dish was that there was a small piece of lettuce mixed in the broth, which suggests that the person handling the food may have handled other ingredients and it was unfortunately mixed in, which can be a bit off-putting for sanitary reasons. The prices are quite high for what they are unfortunately, for you don't often expect HK style drinks to go above 5 dollars (most of the time it ranges from 2-4). For 14 dollars after tax, the food and quality of it also didn't seem to fit the price, where other restaurants often provide entire lunch combos for a similar price or even less. If they can adjust their prices just a little bit, I think the food would definitely be worth a try! Marathon cafe definitely has amazing potential of being one of the better HK style restaurants in the area, but it's hard to reason the price when other HK style restaurants in the area serve lunches that cost 9-11 bucks and drinks that cost 2-4 dollars. Overall, 3.75/5 I would say, with easy fix to get the 5! Thank you for reading and best of luck! (:
I've lived in this neighborhood for over 30 years and we finally get to have our very own mom-and-pop Hong Kong style tea shop. The new owners were very welcoming, English and Cantonese spoken at the establishment.
Lovely place will remind you of hong Kong, clean restroom. Self service restaurant you come in order & pay for your food, grab the utensils at the counter. Bolo yao (pineapple bun with butter) is excellent soft melt in your mouth while the crumbs wont fall off. Fried wings with honey garlic sauce is crispy outside juicy inside, yummy garlic honey sauce French toast with butter on top very filling. Steam Rice roll is bouncy, with fish ball huge portion taste great with the sauce. Fatty beef in tomato sauce also excellent, light flavor which suit our taste buds Cantonese style. Large portion enough for two people too. Glad we drove an hour to try the food, owners are so nice hidden gems The milk tea might not be the best but definitely good enough to come back for. Perfect for breakfast/ lunch. Easy street parking, don't forget to take a pic of the decor.
I'm happy to see that this place is poppin', even a few years after opening. I recently sat down for brunch and enjoyed their expanded menu. It has been a while since I have actually sat down in their Cafe to eat, since most of the time I get take out, or my kids will pick up orders for me. Great to have Hong Kong style "tea restaurant" (茶餐廳) flavors in a quiet neighborhood. Nice place for school kids to also pick up a snack after dismissal. I appreciate that they still take venmo too, so all you need is your phone to pay an order. I'll keep coming back for that Hong Kong style pulled tea, something rarely seen on a menu these days. (Most cafes go lazy and make their milk teas with cheap Lipton tea-dust bags.) That alone will keep this place in business. It's really good to see that business has been good for them, as they serve quality great tasting food, good portions, at a reasonable price.
Not count as cheap eat though, but I really like the vibes here, it's pretty like local Cantonese style. And the food taste pretty good though, I like the cheese pork cutlet and the Hong Kong style milk tea. The staffs are really nice here, tips are not mandatory but I did leave some tips to them.
